RSVP for Think Tank III: Workshops and More!

The third COFRA/BFB Think Tank is coming up in just a few short weeks - June 21st and 22nd, again in Chicago.

I'm proud to announce that in addition to the usual COFRA update goodness, there will be mini-workshops! I'll be hosting one titled Working with the Media, and Virginia Dicken and Mychii Null will be hosting Fat Intersections: Finding Direction, Honoring Connection.

We'll also be offering a chance to record your video for our ongoing Dare to Show Your Face project.

Join us!

June 21-22, 2008 Harold Washington Library Downtown Chicago

As with the previous Think Tanks, this event is free and open to BFB and COFRA members only. If you are interested in attending, it's strongly recommended that you RSVP as soon as possible. How?

Send an email to register for the Think Tank today! The deadline for registration is June 9th.

We'll be providing details on the workshops, agenda, and other pertinent info to attendees over the coming weeks. I hope to see you there!

Also: Carrie explains why you should come: (thanks, Mychii!)

Congratulations | USA Today: Sizism almost as frequent as racism

This looks fantastic... I'm so bummed to have missed *three* of these. Bah! Hopefully there'll be something in the fall for those of us who are, um, relocating?

Any hope for some kind of web feed? Being a poor grad student, traveling is not an option.

If you still aren't convinced you should come, you should check out Carrie's new video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4edGq__-eLE

And if you absolutely cannot come, it would be great if you would work on a Dare to Show Your Face vid!! Mine is filmed and in the works!!

June 2nd, 2008 | Link | Argh! I was totally psyched

Argh! I was totally psyched to go to the Think Tank, but alas, I have family obligations that weekend. Is it possible to make one point on the agenda trying to establish TT IV's date a little farther in advance? I understand that may be challenging because everyone has, you know, a life, but it would be very helpful for scheduling purposes.

For now, I'll have to suffice with hearing all the post-TT III follow-up. I look forward to the stories, pictures, and videos. Smiling

June 2nd, 2008 | Link | Dates

I definitely wanted to get the date out sooner, but couldn't book the room until the funding drive for the Think Tank was completed. We'll shoot for an earlier date for the Fall Think Tank.

jlm June 8th, 2008 | Link | Since I'm financially unable

Since I'm financially unable to attend the think tanks, I wondered if we're allowed to suggest topics for discussion? If so, then I'd like to suggest that the think tank might discuss a coordinated response to the recent Subway ads in the US, which feature a young man buying a meal at a fast food restaurant and then the announcer ads on all sorts of things (seat belt extender, a scale, diet books, extra strength deodorant, a therapist, etc.) because obviously anyone who eats a fast food burger meal is going to become huge. Plus, they'll also become stinky and mentally ill as well, Subway claims, because, yeah, all fat people must have poor hygenie and poor mental health. Ugh.

I'd agitate for a boycott of Subway by all fat folks who are tired of being so blatantly singled out for this type of hate. Get an online petition going, or something to ask fat postive folks and their allies to stop patronizing Subway. They've been getting away for years with stigmatizing fat people, and its about time we stopped letting them treat us like this, imo.
