Reason Magazine Looks at Fat Acceptance
Reason Magazine put together a concise but decent look at fat acceptance. I was interviewed for this piece a while ago now, and it's good to see it here. Even if my last name is misspelled. As is Marilyn Wann's. Opps.
Fat people are tired of being patronized by politicians, mistreated by doctors and barraged by crises and "cures." Many, like Big Fat Blog writer Paul Macaleer [sic] have simply concluded that, "A lot of people don't like fat people." And hard as it may be to accept, many fat people don't want to be "helped" by quack dieticians, misguided doctors, and opportunist politicians. Most, in fact, just want to be left alone.
To a point, this is true. But it's important for people to realize that while we do want to be left alone, we also don't want to be ignored.
(edited to add: I dunno. I'm kind of sad that most of the attention we get in the media nowadays is of the "slight overview" variety; where's the meaty, tough stuff?)

Pretty good article. But don't waste your time reading the comments. (Sigh ... I always forget that rule.) Thanks, anonymous internet people, for reminding me that I'm hated and despised by people who know nothing about me.
Some of the comments are fat-positive, and they're not all by fat people. The haters show up everywhere the word "fat" is mentioned.
Ah dear. I'm a McAleer too; even in Ireland/Scotland trying to get people to spell it right is like getting blood from a stone.
