Junk Food
Paul Campos is certainly gunning for a ripe target. He already wrote about The Fight Over Fat, and now he's written an excellent sequel about the junk science regarding obesity.
...Consider for example the claim that fat kills 300,000 Americans per year, and is thus the nation's second leading cause of premature death, trailing only cigarettes. ... As University of Virginia professor Glen Gaesser points out in the forthcoming revised edition of his book, "Big Fat Lies," the supposed source for this claim was a 1993 medical study that made no such assertion. The article is excellent, and debunks a few "assumptions" about fat people.

My favorite piece of junk
My favorite piece of junk science about obesity is that obesity "causes" diabetes. The evidence used to support that "fact" only really proves that obese people are more likely to be diabetic and that diabetics are more likely to be obese. I have seen nothing that proves to me that obesity is a cause of diabetes. My opinion is that diabetes and obesity share a common link, or that people who are predisposed to one are predisposed to the other, but since it's easier to blame fat diabetics for their own illness, there's no need to do any actual research.
Now, perhaps it's true that you can prevent diabetes by maintaining a lower body weight, but that still doesn't mean that obesity causes diabetes.
