Smoke and Be Thin!
Scary: people still believe smoking will keep fat away. Brazilians tend to agree with the statement, although I'll be happy to point out that the study was of a paltry 100 people. I don't doubt that it's a popular opinion, however, since the concept "smoking = thin" is still hanging around a bit. Isn't it both scary and sad that some people would rather smoke, and put their health at a major risk, than consider the possibility that fat is okay? Are we so very driven into the "thin = good" model that we're willing to possibly kill ourselves for it?

This is typical of backwards
This is typical of backwards thinking... it's scary that many people have this lack of logic. Smoking doesn't help you lose weight; it's just that people quitting smoking have a tendency to gain weight because they substitute food for cigarretes when they have the behavioral urge to smoke. Even weight-obsessed doctors will tell you that smoking is a much worse threat to your health than the slight amount of extra weight.
Some people just fail to see the difference between cause and effect... believing smoking will make you thin makes no more sense than believing wearing small clothes will help you lose weight!
