Fox News Anchor Defends Fat People?
By now I think most of you have probably heard about the NWA flight attendants who are demanding that they be allowed to wear the same "sexy" red dress as their thinner counter-parts.
And I'll give you one guess as to who thinks it's an outrage and that fat women shouldn't be allowed to be flight attendants anyway?
That's right, via Jezebel, obesity's arch-enemy, MeMe Roth, is on the warpath again. This time she's on Fox News. But there's a twist: The anchor, Stuart Varney, publicly shames her for her indulgent hatred!!
We have seen MeMe Roth and her special brand of crazy before, but this time she's got a crazy look and crazier antics than I remember. She acts like a two-year-old desperate for attention, holding up a pair of size 24 pants, laughing uncomfortably...and this guy tells just keeps on her and tells her, "That, madam, is a disgrace."
Who could've predicted that the taming of MeMe would have happened on Fox News?
(Go to Jezebel for the video. Can't imbed it at this time.)
Postscript: Granted, he goes way overboard and is out of line to say fat discrimination is "one of the most hurtful forms of discrimination," as if other forms of discrimination are somehow less hurtful. I'm pretty sure all forms of discrimination suck pretty badly. Oppression Olympics are unnecessary, sir.

*blink* *blink*. . . That was. . . Faux News. . . . Right? Fox? *blink*. . . What?. . . Ok, (brain-alt-delete). . .
. . . OH DAMN!!!! Somebody gave da Meme da smackdown she's been needin' for, like, EVER!
I can't process this right now, I need to come back after I stop laughing. IF I stop laughing.
Learn how to logic- Lesson #5
Correlation is NOT causation.
Obesity does not CAUSE diabetes, heart attack, high blood pressure, or instantaneous death. It MAY contribute in concert with other factors
I can't accept this from Fox without assuming that there's some underhanded motive behind it. Maybe they think that most of their viewers are fat (the whole conservitive = greedy = fat rationale, amirite?) and don't want to lose their... you know what? I don't even want to finish that, because I find it offensive and it might not even be that. Sometimes a defense is just a defense.
I have yet to watch the video, as I am leaving for work in a few minutes. BUT WHEN I RETURN!
Ohhh, when I return...
*blech* I hate watching the news in general, but I really dislike the US news channels (I can personally only compare Canadian and US tv news). This sort of behaviour is why. Yes, MeMe's views are deserving of mocking, but his behaviour was just as bad.
She kept trying to make a big deal about safety, and how if you can't do the job, you shouldn't have the job. They both completely missed that the whole thing has nothing to do with whether or not these flight attendants can do the job. They just want to do their job in the same uniform as their thinner counterparts.
So I watched it, and I am impressed. I dare say that this is the ONLY time I've ever agreed with a representative of Fux News.
WOAH! Did I just say what I think I said? Cripes, man. Maybe I should go watch some Bill O'Reilly Youtube Poops to get myself thinking crooked again.
Loved it, don't care what news station carried it, it was long over due!!
I finally got a chance to watch that video, and I must say that Stuart Varney really gave Screaming MeMe what for. She deserves it, and it's long overdue. Now, if more newspeople will start doing the same, maybe she'll eventually STFU and go away (I can dream, can't I?). When it comes to fat, she's totally irrational and it's about time MSM started seeing that.
WLS - Sorry, not my preferred way of dying. *glares at doctor recommending it*
I don't think he was strong enough, but that's just because I wanted to punch MeMeMeMeeeeeee, and so, found his response restrained!
That woman will do anything for attention, won't she? Question is, why are news stations interviewing *her* about fat issues and not, say, one of us?
(Oh, and it was nice to FOR ONCE see MeMeMEEEEE not be able to get a word in edgewise. Usually, the publicity whore has free rein.)
I don't know anything about Roth's politics, but I suspect that the shrieking ferocity with which many who claim to be left-of-center in the US defend the idea that thin = virtuous has made a little room for FA on the right.
Lately Fox news personalities have been showing signs of horror at the drek they typically encourage their guests to push forth. I'm thinking it's mere moments of lucidity as a result of reduced doses of mind control drugs in the water cooler.

You know I have only seen pics of this woman, I never actually watched any video with her in it. I don't have cable and because I believe she is secretly paid by weight loss interests, I really have never bothered to watch an interview via the net. But I did this time and all I could think of was wow! She is even plainer in video than she is in pics. And that voice! Ugh!!!! I know that pointing these things out are completely below the belt. What is even worse is that I can live withmyself for it !
"Fat can be beautiful. Intolerance is ALWAYS ugly!"
You know, my first thought when she actually started playing peekaboo with those pants? "OMG HOW OLD ARE YOU? I DON'T EVEN--"
-_____- How could anyone possibly take her seriously? I was so amped to see Varney talk over her ridiculous arguments.
**************
"A diet counselor once told me that all overweight people are angry with their mothers and channel their frustrations into overeating. So I guess that means all thin people are happy, calm, and have resolved their Oedipal entanglements."
I've never equated fat-friendliness or body acceptance with any single segment of the Political Spectrum (or however you choose to represent the world of political differences). We've had too many discussions and mentions to the contrary on this forum for me to entertain the idea very seriously. Besides, this forum includes people with different sorts of politics--and I'm glad for that diversity, for a number of reasons.
Specifically, here? I'm surprised when any network has anchors defending fat people.
P.S. I don't systematically visit any websites associated with the big three US news networks, but I get links to all three. I've seen sidebar links to weight loss "success stories" on CNN's and MSNBC's websites. I wouldn't be surprised if Fox News's has or is considering the same type of thing.
It may not be the most "hurtful" discrimination, but it is certainly one of the most widely acceptable discrimiations out there...and frankly, I don't see an end in sight.
